Lancaster rapist who attacked student as she slept is jailed
A man who raped a student in her sleep has been jailed.
David Watters, 32, of no fixed address, sexually assaulted the 20-year-old in a house in Lancaster in April.
The victim was on a night out when she and a friend met Watters and another man. They went back to the house, where Watters went into the victim's bedroom as she slept and raped her.
At Preston Crown Court, Watters was jailed for life and told he would serve a minimum of five years.
Lancashire Police said Watters, who was found guilty last month following his trial at the same court, went to her bedroom "knowing she was asleep".
Det Sgt Fiona Jackson praised the woman for "the strength she has shown during this investigation, in particular in giving evidence at court."
"I am pleased with today's result and hope that the victim can now start to move forward with her life," she added.
