Sex attack on Colne woman linked to intruder incidents

An intruder who climbed through a window before sexually assaulting a woman in her own home may have tried twice before, said police.

The woman was asleep in Colne when the man attacked her before running off in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He is described as Asian, in his late twenties, approximately 5ft 3in (1.6m) tall with a moustache.

Lancashire Police are linking the incident to two others in Nelson and Barrowford in July and August.

The first incident took place at a house in Barrowford on 23 July when a 70-year-old woman woke up to find a man standing over her bed at 05:40 BST.

The second incident took place on 13 August at an address in Nelson when a 49-year-old woman was asleep on her sofa when she woke to see a man standing over her in the middle of the night.

In both cases, the intruder ran off when the women shouted at him.

Det Supt Andy Murphy urged residents to be vigilant and ensure windows and doors are locked and secured overnight.
