Boy, 9, critical after Scarisbrick two-car crash
A nine-year-old boy is in a critical condition in hospital after two cars crashed in Lancashire.
He suffered head injuries and a neck fracture in the crash near to Hurlstone Hall in Southport Road, Scarisbrick, at about 19:40 BST on Thursday.
The boy was a passenger in a car that was being driven in opposite direction to another when the collision happened.
He was airlifted to hospital and the 32-year-old female driver of the other car suffered serious internal injuries.
She has been left with a punctured lung, broken ribs, a broken elbow and a broken forearm.
The road was closed for four hours while investigations took place.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
