Blackpool man charged with historical child sex abuse offences

A Blackpool man has been charged with historical child sex offences.

Lancashire Police said the offences relates to a girl aged 14 or 15 in the early 2000s.

Kashif Gul, 39, of Foxhall Road, is accused of rape, attempted rape, gross indecency with a child and indecency with a child.

A 50-year-old man also arrested on Monday on suspicion of indecent assault and taking indecent images of a child has been bailed.

The arrests followed an investigation into the wider issue of sexual grooming in Blackpool following the disappearance and murder of 14-year-old Charlene Downes in 2003.

Police said they were not "directly connected" to Charlene's disappearance.
