Man admits manslaughter after Preston stab death

A man has admitted killing his girlfriend's estranged husband on the first day of his trial.

Steven Whitney, 50, died after being stabbed in the heart in an alleyway behind Fishwick Parade, Preston, last December.

He was stabbed following an altercation, police said.

Hugh Cushnaghan, 64, of Montgomery Street, Irvine, Scotland, admitted manslaughter at Preston Crown Court. He will be sentenced on 27 May.
