Driver James Hancock dies after car hits street sign in Lancaster

A motorist has died after his car hit a street sign in Lancashire.

James Hancock, 58, was driving a Honda Civic on the A6 in Lancaster, when he drove across a junction before crashing into the sign at about 12:50 GMT.

He was treated at the scene and taken to Lancaster Royal Infirmary, where he died.

In a statement, Mr Hancock's family said they had lost "a loving husband and father, taken from us too soon".

They added: "Words can't describe our loss, he will be in our hearts forever."

Lancashire Constabulary appealed for witnesses to contact them.
