A drama teacher who admitted grooming and sexually abusing a pupil at a Lancashire school has been jailed.

Andrew Willson, 48, of Church Hill, Hollowell, in Northampton, abused the girl, aged between 14 and 15, at Fearns High School in Bacup in the 1990s.

He was jailed for 20 months and ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for 10 years after admitting five indecent assaults at Burnley Crown Court.

He taught at schools in Northampton until he was arrested in 2014.

Det Con Mick Smith, from Lancashire Police, said the victim had shown "enormous courage in coming forward and reporting these offences".

"Willson abused his position of trust as a teacher and groomed his victim before taking advantage of her while she was a pupil at the school," he added.
