A second man has been arrested after the discovery of a "incendiary device" led to the evacuation of a shopping centre in Preston.

The man, 24, is being held on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after the device was found at the Fishergate Shopping Centre.

The evacuation was ordered as a precaution and bomb disposal experts were called in.

The device, which was found on 17 December, ignited but did not explode.

Another man, aged 27, has already been arrested and has been bailed until 28 January.

Det Insp Jane Webb from Preston CID said: "We have carried out a thorough investigation and as a result of our enquiries, we are satisfied this was an isolated incident with no wider, ongoing threat to the public."
