A 79-year-old woman died hours after a car she was travelling in was involved in an accident in Preston.

Eunice Whalley was a passenger in a Ford Focus, which collided with a foreign-registered Saab 95 saloon at the junction of the A583 Watery Lane and Port Way at 17:30 GMT on Saturday.

Paramedics attended and no injuries were reported to the occupants of either vehicle.

However, Ms Whalley, from Chorley, later fell ill and died in hospital.

An investigation has begun to establish the cause of her death, and the coroner has been informed.

Sgt Gareth Hill, of Lancashire Constabulary, said: "My thoughts are with the family and friends of Eunice at this difficult time.

"I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact us."
