Leyland head teacher James Bird not guilty of sexually abusing pupil

A head teacher has been found not guilty of sexually abusing a pupil at a primary school in Lancashire.

James Bird, of Acorn Close, Leyland had been accused of four counts of gross indecency with a boy aged under 16 at a school where he previously worked between 2002 and 2004.

After a four-day trial at Preston Crown Court, he was cleared of all charges.

Mr Bird, 53, had been suspended from his current school, Newton Bluecoat CE Primary, during the legal proceedings.
