Connor Gibson jailed for killing toddler Kacey Hambleton
A man has been jailed for nine years for killing his partner's two-year-old daughter.
Connor Gibson, 23, of Melrose Avenue, Blackpool, admitted the manslaughter of Kacey Hambleton, who died in April.
He was originally charged with murder but the Crown Prosecution Service accepted his guilty plea to the lesser charge at Preston Crown Court.
Emergency services found Kacey, who had suffered severe head injuries, "unresponsive" on 10 April.
She was taken by ambulance to Blackpool Victoria Hospital and later transferred by air ambulance to Liverpool's Alder Hey children's hospital in a critical condition.
She died two days later.
A post-mortem examination found Kacey had suffered severe head injuries, a lacerated liver, bruising to the lining of her stomach and bruising to other parts of her body.
Speaking after sentencing, Det Supt Eddie Thistlethwaite, of Lancashire Constabulary, said: "I welcome today's sentence given the extensive injuries that Kacey suffered at the hands of Gibson, which sadly proved fatal.
"I'm pleased that with his guilty plea earlier this week Gibson finally admitted that he and only he was involved in Kacey's tragic death.
"My thoughts remain with Kacey's family and I hope today's result will help them to start to come to terms with the most devastating loss they have suffered."
