Freemasons at Wiswell tops Good Food Guide best pub list
A "little village pub" in Lancashire has become the first to be named as the best in the UK by the Good Food Guide.
Freemasons at Wiswell, near Clitheroe, topped the list of the top 50 pubs, which has been included for the first time in the guide's 63 year history.
The pub was also ranked 41st in its top 50 restaurants list, which was again topped by L'Enclume in Cumbria.
Chef Steven Smith said the listing "proves in spades" that customers were getting a "second to none" experience.
The guide's consultant editor Elizabeth Carter said the pub was "a role model of its kind".
"[It is] a consistent and likeable country pub with no pretensions or gimmicks, just first-class food and knowledgeable, welcoming service."

The pub also became the first in the guide's history to score a seven out of 10 rating.
Mr Smith said his team was "absolutely over the moon to have received this honour".
"We may only be a little village pub in the Lancashire hills but we have big plans and to see them coming to fruition is fantastic."
