Over 1,000 visit Aughton Pudding Festival

More than 1,000 people have attended a pudding festival in a North Lancashire village, held every 21 years.

Aughton Pudding Festival, which organisers believe dates back to 1782, traditionally sees Aughton villagers make a giant pudding.

Organiser Sandi Haythornthwaite claimed a world record had been set at the last festival in 1992.

She said Mitzi Hayhurst cooked a secret recipe, with her plum pudding weighing in at 3.82 tonnes.

Ms Hayhurst also made the 2013 pudding using the same recipe.

It took two days to bake in a specially converted tin bath.

Also featured at the festival was the North of England Snail Racing Championship, duck herding and a sheep show among other events.
