A cannabis factory containing drugs with an estimated street value of £17,000 has been discovered in Darwen.

Police raided the property on Tythebarn Street following concerns from members of the public and found 42 plants in an upstairs bedroom.

Cultivation equipment, including lighting and fans, was also seized in the raid.

Detectives are now appealing to find out who was responsible for the cannabis.

Det Insp Mark Winstanley said they had acted on locally voiced concerns and "prevented a large amount of cannabis from reaching the streets of East Lancashire".

"We know the impact drugs has on our communities and we will continue to do all we can to tackle them."

"I urge anyone with information about drugs in their community to contact us."
