Man shot in Upholland post office raid
A man has been shot in the leg during an armed robbery at a post office in Lancashire.
Three masked men raided Upholland Post Office on Hall Green as it was closing at about 17:30 GMT on Friday.
Police said a 38-year-old woman staff member was threatened with a knife and a 61-year-old customer was shot in the back of his leg.
The gang stole a small cash before running off down an alleyway towards Hall Green.
Anyone with information has been urged to contact police.
Det Insp Paul Rudd, from Lancashire Constabulary, said staff were closing the door of the post office when the gang forced their way in.
The woman was threatened by one of the men and the man was shot as he turned to leave the shop during the raid.
Both were taken to Wigan Infirmary with non life-threatening injuries. The woman was released after being treated for bruises and shock.
Det Insp Rudd said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the robbery to come forward and contact police.
"I am also keen to speak to people who may have seen people acting suspiciously prior to the incident or who perhaps saw three men dressed in dark clothing running away from the area.
"Fortunately the two people were not seriously hurt but that really is by luck.
"The fact that these people used a firearm and discharged it shows that they would stop at nothing to steal money from the post office."
