Taxi driver jailed for Chorley passenger sex attack

A taxi driver has been jailed for sexually assaulting a teenage male passenger after he drove him to a secluded dirt track in Lancashire.

Zulfikar Nawaz, 56, of Balshaw Road, Leyland, was found guilty at Preston Crown Court and jailed for five years.

The court heard that Nawaz refused to stop outside his victim's home and drove the teenager to an area of Chorley where he sexually attacked him.

He was arrested hours after the assault at 03:00 GMT on 5 December 2010.

'Provide reassurance'

His victim managed to push him away and run off.

Det Sgt Phil Bowerbank said: "Fortunately these sorts of offences are very rare but I hope this provides some reassurance to the local community that this man is now behind bars.

"I am pleased with the sentence given which reflects the nature of the offence. I hope this outcome will now help the victim to put the incident behind him and move on with his life.

"We are committed to investigating offences of this nature and we will continue to put offenders before the courts."

Nawaz was convicted of sexual assault on 7 October after a two-week trial.

He was told he will remain on the sex offenders' register for life and was banned from driving any passenger vehicle during this period.
