John Alan Brooks charged with cocaine-smuggling conspiracy

A man from Lancashire has been charged with conspiracy to import cocaine.

Police arrested John Alan Brooks, 60, in Blackpool on 5 November as part of a Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca) investigation.

The investigation relates to a plot to transport 1.5 tonnes of cocaine, worth £406m, to the UK from Trinidad on a yacht named Dances with Waves in 2008.

Mr Brooks is due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday 16 November.

The yacht was tracked from the Caribbean before the Irish authorities moved in 170 miles off the Cork coast.

The drugs seizure was one the largest in Irish history.

Originally from Blackpool, Mr Brooks had been living in the Benahavis area of Spain before his arrest.
