Hunt for masked armed robber in Lytham St Annes

An attacker wearing a skeleton mask on a BMX bike who threatened a man with a gun in a Lancashire street and demanded cash is being hunted by police.

The attempted robbery took place at about 14:30 GMT on a footpath behind Blackpool and Fylde College's Ansdell campus in Lytham St Annes.

The victim, who was walking his dog, managed to wrestle the offender to the ground and take the gun off him.

The culprit, thought to be in his 20s, then pulled a knife.

'Facial injuries'

A struggle then ensued on the path between Worsley Road and Ledbury Avenue and the 41-year-old victim managed to pull the mask off the offender who then fled towards Ansdell.

Lancashire Constabulary's Det Con Liam Davy said: "This is a serious offence but, fortunately, due to the victim's brave actions, he was not seriously injured.

"It is not known at this stage if the gun was real or imitation but an investigation is under way."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Blackpool Police.
