Lancashire-based entertainer Joe Longthorne is recovering at home following a car crash in Cheshire.

The 56-year-old singer and two other men were taken to Crewe's Leighton Hospital after their Mercedes left the A500 early on Saturday.

He was due to perform that night at Alvaston Hall near Nantwich, but the show was cancelled.

A statement on the vocalist's website said he suffered a broken nose and broken ribs.

The Blackpool-based singer is due to begin a summer season in the resort's Grand Theatre running from 28 July to 29 October.

He has bookings at other venues until the end of the year.

Bone marrow transplant

"Joe was involved in a serious accident on Saturday," said the website statement.

"Thankfully his injuries were not too serious, suffering a broken nose and ribs."

His career has taken him to venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and Sydney Opera House.

Longthorne fought a 17-year battle against lymphona.

In 2005 he had a bone marrow transplant, but nearly died during the operation. He was given the last rites by a priest.
