Blackpool sex attack 'did not take place'

Police investigating an alleged sex attack on a 29-year-old woman in Blackpool have concluded that the assault did not happen.

The alleged victim had claimed she was attacked while walking along Church Street on Sunday.

She claimed that a man had pulled her into Alfred Street and sexually assaulted her.

Roads around the area were closed for several hours while officers mounted a full scale investigation.

Ch Insp Andrea Barrow, who led the investigation, said: "We took this report very seriously as we do with all allegations of this nature. However after a large amount of investigation it has been revealed that in fact no offence had taken place.

"However, I would urge anyone who is a victim of any sexual assault to come forward and speak to police.

"I would like to thank members of the public who came forward with information and apologise to residents for any disruption caused."
