Hooded robber steals Accrington bank cash box

A robber escaped with a "significant" amount of cash after attacking a female security guard at a bank in east Lancashire, police have said.

The man, who was wearing a hood, pushed the G4 Security (G4S) guard as she delivered a box of money inside HSBC on Blackburn Road, Accrington, on Friday.

He was last seen escaping on foot in the direction of Birch Street.

Forensic examinations of the scene were carried out and police are looking through CCTV footage.

Witness appeal

The guard was not injured in the raid.

Det Insp Mark Vaughton, of Lancashire Police, said: "A significant investigation has now been launched with officers conducting forensic examinations at the crime scene and carrying out enquiries with local residents and businesses in the area.

"We are also checking CCTV to try to trace the movements of the offender but I am appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

"In particular, we are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a man matching his description approaching or leaving the area."
