Woman raped by man in Ormskirk park

A woman was raped by a man who approached her as she walked home from Ormskirk town centre, police said.

The 22-year-old was attacked in the early hours of 4 October but has only just come forward and told police.

She had walked through Coronation Park towards County Road, and turned back to meet her friends when a man forced her to the ground and raped her.

Police said the attacker is white, in his 30s, and spoke with a soft Liverpool accent.

He is said to be of medium build and about 5ft 10in (1.7m) tall.

Det Ch Insp Neil Howarth said: "This is a nasty assault and the victim has been left very shaken following her ordeal and it has taken a lot of courage for her to come forward and it has taken her some time to be able to do so.

"I would appeal for anyone who may have seen anything at all to come forward and contact us.

"I would like people to be reassured that any information passed to us will be treated in confidence and would encourage people to come forward and report the incident."
