Fire causes disruption on M6 and M61 motorways

Drivers have been warned to expect delays on the M6 and M61 motorways in Lancashire after a fire.

Crews were called to the junction of the M6 and M61, near Preston, at 0325 BST, as a lorry trailer was alight.

Police closed the junction and the northbound lanes of the M6, from junctions 29 to 31 for several hours.

Lancashire police said two northbound lanes of the M6, from junctions 29 and 31 and one lane of the M61, at junction nine, had been reopened.

The other lanes remain closed for clear-up work.

A spokeswoman advised drivers to avoid the area if possible.
