West Lancashire couple tied up by masked robbers

A couple were tied up with a vacuum cleaner cable and threatened during a robbery at their home in a West Lancashire village.

Four masked men armed with crowbars entered the house on Black Moor Road, Mawdesley, on Sunday night.

After tying the man up the gang - who spoke with eastern European accents - forced his wife to hand over jewellery, including a number of rings.

Lancashire Police said the couple were left distressed and frightened.

After handing over the jewellery, the couple were tied to a wooden post with the cable in the living room and threatened with violence.

Distinctive jewellery

Items taken in the raid included an art deco ring with four diamonds in a cross shape, a gold ring with three diamonds in a line, a diamond heart-shaped pendant and an art deco leaf-shaped brooch with diamonds.

Det Sgt David Brooks, leading the investigation, said: "This was an incredibly distressing and frightening incident for the couple, who were targeted in their own home.

"Some of the jewellery that was taken is particularly distinctive and we would like to speak to anyone who may have been offered it for sale.

"We would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the vicinity of the robbery, either before or after it took place."
