Pedestrian killed in Maidstone bus crash

A pedestrian in his 70s was killed when he was hit by a bus on a residential street.

It happened in Loose Road, Maidstone, at 16:15 GMT on Friday.

Emergency crews were called and officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for information.

The road was closed while emergency services worked at the scene, and reopened at 20:30.

Oliver Monahan, area managing director for bus firm Arriva Kent and Surrey, said: "We can confirm that an incident involving one of our services yesterday afternoon has sadly resulted in a fatality.

"Our sincerest thoughts and sympathy go out to everybody affected by these tragic events, and we are currently working alongside emergency services and Kent Police to assist with its ongoing appeal for information and wider investigations."
