Pair deny smuggling cocaine into Chatham in light aircraft

Two men have denied plotting to smuggle millions of pounds worth of cocaine into Kent in a light aircraft.

Dutch national John Buwalda, 52, and Polish national Jan Polak, 61, have been charged with importation of the class A drug on or before 30 June.

They were arrested after National Crime Agency and Met Police officers saw an aircraft landing in a field in Chatham.

They appeared via video link at the Old Bailey, where they are due to face trial on 7 December.

Mr Buwalda, from Hilversum in the Netherlands, and Mr Polak, of Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, appeared before the court via video link from HMP High Down.
