Northfleet driver held as woman, 88, dies in crash

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after an 88-year-old pedestrian died when she was hit by a car.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident in London Road, Northfleet, just before 11:50 BST.

Kent Police said the crash, near the junction with Pier Road, involved an Audi A6 driven by a 27-year-old man from Northfleet, who is in custody.

Officers said the woman who died walked with a stick.

They want to hear from anyone who saw her in the moments before the crash.

They are also trying to trace the driver of a grey Citroen Berlingo van, or similar, who may have important information which can help their investigation.
