Man arrested after 24 hours on Cliftonville roof

A man has been arrested after spending almost 24 hours on a roof in Kent.

The 30-year-old, from the Margate area, was arrested on suspicion of public order offences, causing criminal damage and assaulting a police officer.

Police were called to the scene in Northdown Road, Cliftonville, just before 02:20 GMT on Tuesday.

The man was removed from the roof just before 01:50 GMT on Wednesday, Kent Police said.

Roads were closed and people living nearby were told to leave their homes after debris was thrown from the roof.

Negotiators were called to talk to the man, who was on the flat roof of a two-storey building.
