Cliftonville man on roof for more than 12 hours

Roads have been closed and people asked to vacate their homes in Cliftonville in Kent where a man has been on the roof for more than 12 hours.

Police have asked residents to leave the vicinity because debris is being thrown from the roof of a property in Northdown Road.

Police were called to the scene just before 02:20 GMT.

They said negotiators were talking to the man who is on a flat roof of a two-storey building.

Insp Julien Lawton said the safety of the public and the man was the force's primary concern.

He said officers were working to resolve the situation as soon as possible.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
