A motorist has died in hospital from his injuries after a collision between two cars in Kent.

The driver of a Volkswagen Golf suffered fatal injuries when his car collided with a Land Rover Discovery on the A229 at about 17:00 GMT on Monday.

Kent Police arrested the driver of the Land Rover, who was also injured, on suspicion of dangerous driving shortly after the crash near Linton.

The man, aged in his 40s, has been released on bail until 5 June.

Sgt Scott Lynch, of Kent Police, appealed for anyone who was driving on the A229 between Linton and Staplehurst at the time of the crash to come forward.

"This occurred at a very busy time of the day and when a large amount of people would have been in the area.

"We believe there may have been a number of motorists who may have information, but who perhaps may not have been able to stop at the time."
