Maidstone water mains scheme delayed for Christmas

Work on a £155,000 upgrade to the water mains in the pedestrianised area of Maidstone town centre has been held off until the new year.

South East Water said it had held talks with traders and agreed to start the work after Christmas shopping was over.

The company has dealt with 13 bursts in Week Street and Earl Street since 2010.

Delivery manager Chris Love said it was unacceptable that people lost supply during bursts, and the work would be done with minimal disruption.

Work is planned to start on 5 January.
