A bomb disposal unit was sent to a Maidstone school after a pupil brought in an old firework causing an alert.

Staff at South Borough School, which teaches children aged between three and 11, called police when they saw the firework.

A cordon was set up and lessons moved to other parts of the school while bomb experts disposed of the object.

Kent Police said disruption was kept to a minimum and classes were able to continue throughout the operation.
