Man killed by lorry on M20 near Ashford

A van driver has been run over and killed by a lorry after stopping on the hard shoulder of the M20 in Kent and getting out of his vehicle.

The 56-year-old man from Essex was struck at about 01:30 BST, Kent Police said.

He had been driving a silver VW Caddy van on the London-bound carriageway between junctions 10 and 9, near Ashford.

The carriageway was closed until 09:40, police said.

The man's next of kin have been informed, a Kent Police spokesman said. No arrests have been made.
