Kent road scheme to improve A20 Dover Folkestone route

A series of overnight road closures is planned for work to be carried out on a key route in east Kent between Dover and Folkestone.

The Highways Agency said work to resurface and improve parts of the A20 would begin on Monday and would be completed by 2 February.

Project sponsor Anita Waterton said skid resistance improvements should make the road safer for drivers.

She said maintenance work would also be carried out in the Roundhill tunnel.

Resurfacing would also lead to smoother and quieter journeys, she added.

"We have carefully planned the work to minimise disruption and will carry it out in phases and overnight, when we know traffic flows are lowest," she said.

Overnight closures will affect the coast-bound A20 from Monday to Saturday and from 20 January to 2 February.

The London-bound carriageway will have closures from 13 to 17 January during which times diversions will be active.
