Rochester teenager dies in New Year's Day crash

A 17-year-old boy died when he was hit by a car as he walked home in the early hours of New Year's Day.

The teenager, from the Rochester area, was walking along the Maidstone-bound carriageway of the A229 at Bluebell Hill when he was struck by a white Skoda Rapid.

Kent Police said he suffered fatal injuries. His family has been told.

The road was closed for three and a half hours. Officers are appealing for witnesses.

In another incident, an 83-year-old man was crossing Ashford Road at Chartham on the A28 near Canterbury shortly after 16:00 GMT on New Year's Eve when he was struck by a black Kia Picanto.

He died on the way to King's Hospital in London, a police spokesman said.

The force is appealing for witnesses.
