A motor boat has sunk and two other vessels were damaged during a major fire at a Kent yacht club.

About 25 firefighters spent two hours tackled the blazing boats which were moored off Strood Yacht Club.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said crews were unable to save a 40ft (12m) motor launch which sank.

Other boats were moved away from the blaze on Sunday evening, to stop the flames spreading further. No-one was injured during the fire.

An investigation into the cause is to start.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "The motor launch has been too badly damaged by fire and has sunk.

"Crews have made the scene safe and handed duty of care to the yacht club."
