Hundreds of tonnes of waste burn in West Malling blaze

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a recycling unit in Kent involving about 800 tonnes of recycled waste.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to the site in Kings Hill, West Malling, at about 07:20 GMT.

Dean Firmin, from the fire service, said the blaze involved mainly chipboard, plastics and "small general waste".

Residents near the unit in Blaise Quarry Road were advised to close doors and windows.
