Straw on fire at Mersham farm set to burn for three days

A fire which broke out in 4,000 tonnes of baled straw on a farm in Kent could continue to burn for three days, fire crews have said.

Two fire engines were called to the scene in Broad Oak, Mersham, near Ashford, at about 20:30 GMT on Friday.

Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control but said it was continuing to burn under observation.

The fire is generating large amounts of smoke that can be seen from the M20 and the high-speed rail link.
