Medway Council considers limiting fast food near schools

A council in Kent is considering whether to limit the number of fast food outlets opening near schools.

Medway Council said nearly all of the area's schools were within a 15-minute walk of a takeaway, and 20% of 10 and 11-year-olds were obese.

It will take over responsibility for public health from the NHS in April, and could restrict opening hours.

A detailed study of obesity, deprivation and fast food outlets in the area is now being carried out.
