Digger used to steal Ashford cash machine

Thieves used an industrial digger they had stolen from a building site to excavate a cash machine in Kent.

Officers were called to the Waitrose store in St Bernard Paget Avenue, Ashford, at 02:40 GMT on Wednesday.

The cash machine had been ripped from the wall and the digger was found abandoned in the supermarket car park.

The ATM was later found abandoned between Hothfield and Pluckley. Police said it had been emptied of money but did not know how much it contained.

The cash machine was found next to a burning car, which had earlier been reported stolen.
