An elderly couple have been given what police have described as a "horrific beating" in their home.

Pensioners Gordon and Ann Davis, aged 77 and 70, suffered a 45-minute ordeal at the hands of the raiders in Elmsted near Ashford.

Police said they believe the couple were targeted and money was stolen from the property.

Three men arrested in connection with the 5 November attack were released on bail pending further inquiries.

Mr and Mrs Davis received treatment for their injuries at William Harvey Hospital and are now recovering at home with family.

Kent Police, who have just released details of the incident, believe it was a pre-planned attack and not an opportunistic one.

Det Insp Eddie Fox said: "The house is in a very remote location so I believe a vehicle of some sort would have been used.

"Someone out there knows who was responsible for this horrific beating and I would urge them to come forward with any information they may have."
