Dartford chemical spill: 16 treated at hospital

A chemical spill in Dartford has resulted in 16 people requiring hospital treatment.

Kent Fire and Rescue was called to the Yodel depot in Bridge Close in the Crossways business park at 0745 BST.

The fire service said it had contained two litres of ammonia spilled at the distribution company's premises.

Twenty people were checked and treated at the scene for chemical inhalation by crews from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SEACAmb).

A SEACAmb spokesperson said: "Crews... were called to the scene by Kent Fire and Rescue after reports a number of people were suffering from chemical inhalation.

"None of the patients... were believed to be in a life-threatening condition."

A Yodel spokesperson said: "We take this matter very seriously and are doing everything we can to ensure the health and safety of our employees and of local residents."
