A dog was deliberately tied up and abandoned on marshland in Kent, a local authority has said.

The bulldog was found near Lower Halstow when a resident who heard it barking went looking for it.

Tim Oxley, Swale Borough Council's animal control officer, said the case had made him "very angry".

"If it hadn't been found when it was, or there had been an unusually high tide the dog would probably have died," he said.

"It looks as if someone has abandoned this dog far enough from the road so that it would not be seen by traffic."
