Finance worries spark rise in calls to Kent Samaritans

A Kent charity has reported a rise in the number of people seeking advice through its confidential helpline.

Canterbury Samaritans said it had received 2,860 calls for the first six months this year compared to 2,530 for the same period in 2009.

Mary Greenwood, the branch director, said many people were feeling anxious about their financial situation.

She said: "Given the cuts we're all going to be facing, we expect our figures to rise even further."
