One dead and one seriously injured in Faversham crash

A teenager has died at the scene of a road crash in Kent and another is in a London hospital in a serious condition.

Kent Police said an 18-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near Faversham where a car hit a wooden electricity pole.

The 18-year-old male driver was airlifted to hospital with serious chest and pelvic injuries on Saturday.

Officers said the crash damaged the electricity pole and the car caught fire during the incident.

The teenager who died has not yet been named.

Electricity danger

Emergency teams were called to the A251 Ashford Road near Faversham at about 0800 BST.

The Vauxhall Corsa had been travelling towards Faversham and was near the junction with the M2 when it hit the pole.

Paramedics treated the passenger but he died, police said.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to tackle the fire and the local electricity supplier was called to make the scene safe for the public and emergency services.

Police closed the slip road off the M2 coastbound at junction six at about 0920 BST, and it reopened about 12 hours later.
