Gravesend horse attack pit bull dog is destroyed

An illegal pit bull dog that attacked a horse in north Kent has been destroyed, police have said.

The animal caused puncture wound injuries to the horse's legs, face and stomach, in Dering Way, Gravesend on 29 September.

Officers seized the dog after two people managed to get it away from the horse, which had collapsed.

The owner of the dog was arrested for having a dangerous and out of control dog but later released without charge.

Kent Police said he originally rescued the animal in the belief that it was a Staffordshire bull terrier but a specially trained officer identified it as a pit bull breed.

A spokeswoman said: "The man handed the dog over to be destroyed and was not charged.

"The dog was subsequently put down on Wednesday."
