Serious road crashes falling in Kent

The latest crash figures for Kent have shown the number of serious road collisions is falling, the county council has said.

Statistics showed the number of people killed or seriously hurt over 12 months fell from 699 in March 2008 to 646 in March 2009, to 583 in March this year.

The cabinet highways spokesman for Kent County Council, Nick Chard, said the authority's figures were "encouraging".

He urged drivers to help by driving safely and responsibly.

The figures were from a quarterly monitoring report complied by Kent County Council.
