Pedestrian in hospital after being hit by van

A 60-year-old pedestrian is in hospital in London with serious head injuries after being hit by a van near Gravesend.

Kent Police said emergency teams were called to Long Field Avenue, New Barn, at about 1330 BST on Monday.

The woman was flown to hospital by air ambulance and remains in a stable but critical condition.

The road was closed until 2100 BST while police carried out inquiries.

Det Sgt Miles Bishop said several people may have seen the crash.

He said: "We believe there may well be a number of people who witnessed the collision and have information which could help with our inquiries. I would urge them to come forward as soon as possible."

The vehicle involved in the crash was a Ford Transit van, he added.

The driver, a man in his 30s, was not injured.

Anyone with any information has been asked to contact Kent Police.
