Phillip Simmons jailed for life for Hull garden murders
A "vicious and violent" man who murdered two men in Hull has been jailed for life.
Phillip Simmons killed Daniel Hatfield and Matthew Higgins despite them posing "no threat", Humberside Police said.
The bodies of Mr Hatfield, 52, and Mr Higgins, 49, were found in a garden in May Street on 22 April 2016.
Simmons, 38, of May Street, must serve a minimum of 36 years after admitting the murders and a charge of robbery at a previous hearing at Hull Crown Court.
Det Ch Insp Tony Cockerill said Simmons murdered one of the men in "a sense of misguided dislike" and killed the other "in a simple but chilling effort" to prevent him from discovering the body.
"Daniel and Matthew were no threat to Phillip Simmons, a brutal, vicious and violent man," he said.
"He murdered them, one after the other, using astonishing levels of violence and determination.
"This has been a dreadful loss to those who cared for Daniel and Matthew and I hope this sentence will bring some closure for them."
