A man has been given a life sentence for the "brutal murder" of a 64-year-old in Grimsby.

Steven Beaumont, 40, of no fixed address, will serve a minimum of 18 years for murdering William Baker, known as Billy.

Mr Baker was found beaten to death at a house in Weelsby Street in Grimsby on 6 January.

Beaumont was found guilty on Tuesday following a three-week trial at Sheffield Crown Court.

Det Ch Insp Wendy North, of Humberside Police, said Beaumont - a heroin and amphetamine user - showed "nothing but contempt for Billy".

She said: "Mr Baker died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries sustained in an attack in his home.

"He suffered a sustained and vicious attack and the multiple injuries he sustained left him with no chance of survival.

"Steven Beaumont showed nothing but contempt for his victim throughout the investigation, during which he denied any knowledge or involvement in Billy's brutal murder."
